JERUSALEM - Palestine Technical University, Khadoorie, and the Arab Society of Certified Accountants have signed an agreement to accredit the former as a certified examination center for international qualifications and certificates in the field of professional accounting. It is especially enabled to offer the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), the International Arab Certified Management Accountant (IACMA) and the International Arab Certified Public Accountant (IACPA) examinations and qualifications.

The agreement was signed at the conclusion of a workshop for the "Accounting Information Systems Program" project, funded by the World Bank, in cooperation with Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization. Present at this occasion were the Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs and Director of the Accounting Leadership Center, Dr. Nafie Assaf, the University’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Sa'ed Malak, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Dr. Ihab Alqubbaj, the representative of International Arab Society of Certified Accountants (IASCA) in Palestine and the CEO of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Group, Mr. Jamal Melhem, and as well as  faculty and students from the Faculty of Economics and Business.

Dr. Assaf clarified that this agreement was the third of its kind between the two entities, all of which are in line with the mission and strategy of the University to promote partnerships between Khadoorie University and the private sector, with a view to stimulating and facilitating student's familiarity with the labor market, enabling them to compete and engage in it. Assaf said that accrediting Khadoorie University as a center for professional exams was an opportunity to enable university students, and in particular accounting students in the state, to obtain appropriate training in preparation for the professional accounting examinations accredited at national and regional levels.

For his part, Mr Melhem explained that the establishment of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Society is part of the philosophy of Abu-Ghazaleh International Investment Group for the pursuit of knowledge, professional skills and the building of human capacities, stating that the establishment of the center and signing of the agreement were in agreement with TAG's non-profit mission to create the best possible conditions for Palestinian youth. This includes granting them the opportunity to access TAG Business Administration College and business locations, as well as enabling them to access other universities and research centers. Mr Melhem added that selecting Khadoorie University to establish the center and sign the agreement with the Arab Society would enhance their cooperation in other areas, for instance Cambridge ACMA and IACPA certificates for IT Skills, in addition to providing  courses for accountants and the accreditation of the University as a center for international certifications and examinations.

Melhem emphasized that despite the fact that funding for the accounting leadership project has ended, TAG will work to strengthen the leading role of the center in the field of accounting, so as to continue as a permanent reference for knowledge and development and an effective support to achieve quality in the accounting business.
During a workshop presented by Dr. Alqubbaj: Introduction to Accounting IT Systems Program, a presentation was made on virtual companies.

The Arab Society of Accountants is one of the non-profit branches of the TAG Group. It has developed its methods within the latest up-to-date accounting standards. The Society holds its examinations in more than forty Arab states, including Palestine Technical University, Khadoorie.
