24 Apr 2017 AMMAN – Under the Chairmanship of HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, the Transformation into a Knowledge Society Committee at Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum (TAGKF) discussed the importance of the knowledge society in building the economy, developing the services provided to citizens and finding technical solutions to problems facing the community

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stressed the importance of the this Committee as it encompasses almost all work of the 34 TAGKF Committees and seeks to achieve the main objective of the Forum in “transforming the Jordanian society into a knowledge-based society”.

He also focused on the need to promote the concept of digital knowledge society, pointing out the knowledge society mainly focuses on the fields of Digital Education, Digital Government, Digital Infrastructure, Digital Social Justice and Digital Economy.

The dissemination of knowledge between the state and the community is achieved by using and developing technical tools. “It is important to develop Jordanian schools by using digital methods and various technologies. In addition, the transforming to a knowledge society contributes in solving economic problems, reducing the budget deficit and managing the public debt,” Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh affirmed.

The attendees agreed on developing an action plan for the Committee that aims to find procedures and strategies for the transformation to the knowledge society.

The Committee includes a group of experts and volunteers who propose programs, laws, and procedures to decision-makers as the Forum is a research center that submits draft decisions and proposals on all economic policies.

HE Mr. Ahmad Al-Jaloudy who has been assigned to chair the Committee stressed along with the members of the Committee the importance of the knowledge society in finding radical solutions to problems facing various sectors in the community.

The attendees reviewed discussion papers, proposals and plans made to introduce the knowledge society; discussing the importance of having free Internet in some areas, criticizing the failure to fully implement the e-services provided by the government to the citizens and that the provided services need to be developed and evaluated; arguing that the vision of HM King Abdullah II in 2002 to connect schools with high-speed Internet has not been achieved so far.

They also clarified the importance to revive citizens’ confidence to use technology and provide the protection means needed to protect the financial e-transactions as well as the importance to build a trusted Jordanian Arab digital source of information.

Moreover, they focused on the creativity of youth through establishing more knowledge stations around the Kingdom.

The Forum aims to achieve the goal of transforming Jordan society into a knowledge society reaching a GDP of two hundred billion dollars by 2040.
